PRESS: MaximaTelecom signs new deal with Moscow for 435 mln rbl

MOSCOW, Sep 17 (PRIME) -- The price of a deal with MaximaTelecom, an operator of Wi-Fi on public transport, has more than doubled over two years to 434.5 million rubles for the Moscow government, and the new contract includes monitoring of user devices and traffic, business daily Kommersant on Thursday.

A unit of the capital city’s IT department, Mosgortelekom, signed earlier in September a new contract with MaximaTelecom, which develops Wi-Fi in the metro of Moscow and St. Petersburg, among others, to provide services of a single operator of municipal Wi-Fi in Moscow till the end of 2022.

MaximaTelecom will get 434.5 million rubles for 28 months. The previous contract was concluded in January 2019 for 149.5 million rubles for 18 months.

The IT department and the company explained the increased price mainly by a longer duration of the contract.

MaximaTelecom will provide up to 35,000 Wi-Fi hotspots under the new contract in comparison to 25,000 hotspots under the previous deal, while most of them were launched by other operators since 2013. According to the IT department, Moscow has 19,800 hotspots of free Wi-Fi in September.
